These maps and tables bring up to date the information to be found in the appendices of Faith in the City, and provide a picture of how, twenty years on, deprivation can be pictured in relation to the parishes and dioceses of the Church Of England.

Methods of measuring deprivation and exclusion have changed greatly in the past twenty years.

The information in Tables 1 and 2 brings up to date the data found in Tables 1 and 2 in Appendix B of the original Faith in the City report.

  • Table 1 - Diocese statistics 1993 and 2003
  • Table 2 - Ten years comparative statistics 1993 and 2003

Table 3 provides information on parishes with high Index of Multiple Deprivation 2004 scores. The accompanying map illustrates this information. These two documents must be looked at in conjunction with each other as the table introduces the IMD scores and describes how they have been used.

Following on from this data, Table 4 and its accompanying map show the percentage of each diocese's population living in deprived parishes.

The following map gives a wider look at deprivation across the whole country by showing, in different colours, all areas that have deprivation scores that cover the most deprived 50% of the national population.
